Portugal will be the protagonist in 2017's Madrid book fair. This year, the festival will be held between May 26th and June 11th. At the book fair, visitors will get be in touch not only with the current literary production but also with literary performances, movies, music and photography; under the theme "Caminos de la literatura" (The ways of literature).
One of the highlights of the fair will be the meeting of Portuguese speaking writers, in which the Brazilian grammarian Evanildo Bechara will take part representing our country. The meeting will be held on June 7th and will be gather: Valter Hugo Mãe (Portugal), Luís Cardoso (East Timor), Olinda Beja (Saint Thomas and Prince), Flaviano Mindeja (Guiné-Bissau), José Luís Tavares (Cape Verde), Ondjaki (Angola), Mbate Pedro (Mozambique), and our Evanildo Bechara.
In the twenty days of the fair, you will also find sessions dedicated to the greatest names of Portuguese literature such as Luís de Camões, Fernando Pessoa, José Saramago, Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, Almada Negreiros, Ruy Belo, Maria Gabriela Llansol, and Herberto Helder. You will also meet editors, booksellers, translators and academics in the many conferences, talks, meetings, readings, debates and concerts.
The Madrid Book fair in one of the main cultural events in the publishing industry and is organized by Spain's Foreign Trade Ministry and Culture Ministry.
